Diva Grace

Duane's parents decided ages that they would take Grace out one day and buy her a new pair of shoes for her birthday. Wendy loves shoes, so she thought spending a few hours trying on shoes with her Granddaughter might be a great bonding opportunity.

WRONG.

Grace is extremely fussy when it comes to what she puts on her feet. She likes thongs, Havianna's with cute embellishments preferably. She will not wear crocs but absolutely adores her silver ballet flats that she found all by herself one op-shop visit. She has a brand new pair of perfectly fitting white Birkenstocks, but will not even wear them around the house. Does she not understand how comfortable they are? Surely no child of mine would be going style over comfort in the foot department.

So yesterday Duane headed out with his Mum and Daughter on the long awaited shoe trip. Grace was given free reign over which ones she would like to try on, but was choosing ones that didn't fit her wide, broad feet or tiny ankles. After trying Spendless, Payless, Target and the K-mart - patience was getting thin.

Grace was not happy with the choices Daddy and Grandma were making. They were either not pretty enough, no strap, no sparkles, not the right colour or not in size 11. She was very decisive on what she would even bother trying on, giving a disapproving nod to those that didn't fit the standard.

The last shop left (after giving up on the first mall and heading to the 2nd) was Betts Kids. Now, I've been in there before and I know that they have lots of beautiful shoes that would have been perfect for Grace. Except the stubborn little minx only wanted one particular pair, right or wrong.

They fit all her criteria, and she was in love.

Problem was they were not in her size, but they could get them sent from another store. Also they are black patent leather, which although I would prefer her to not have a black pair, I have always harboured a fantasy to have my daughter wear a little pair of these shoes. So, they were all paid for and we just had to pop in the next day to pick them up.

So today they all headed there again. The box was opened and instead of the black pair, there laying daintily inside were a pair of the same style - but in pearl white. There was a moment of silence as the diva surveyed the box, everyone held there breathe waiting anxiously for her reaction.

"But they're not black" But it only took a moment for her to reach in and pick them up, then she sighed "Oh, they are sooooo lovely"

And I'm sure that will be the very first and last time that Grandma takes the style princess out with the generous instruction to pick whatever she wants!
